How far from openings in the home does the generator need to be?
Does my existing electrical panel need to be upgraded?
Most times no it will not need to be upgraded. In some cases, it would be a good time to upgrade old out-of-date panels though as it could save you money vs doing at a latter date.
What is covered under the base warranty?
The base warranty in most cases is a 5 year limited warranty. Years 1-2 parts, labor & travel are covered. Year 3 is parts only and you are responsible for labor & travel. Years 4-5 is major components only, Engine, rotor & stator, no labor coverage. Warranty does not cover and after hours overtime.
Do you handle warranty repairs directly?
Yes. All warranty work is no money out of your pocket when the work is scheduled during normal business hours. We bill Generac directly for parts & labor when covered under warranty.
Will my gas meter or gas line need to be upsized?
Most likely yes. Your gas meter is likely sized for what gas appliances you have in your home, and a standby generator typically adds 250, 000 BTU’s or more of gas load.
What void’s the warranty?
There are many things that can void the warranty but here are a few of the main examples:
- Improper Installation: Violating code (wiring, fuel, clearances), installing indoors, or using non-Generac parts.
- Not performing regular maintenance
- Generator installed indoors
- Misuse: Using as prime power (instead of backup), modifying the design (exhaust, etc.), or using it for unintended applications.
- Unauthorized Repairs: Work done by non-authorized technicians or using non-Generac parts.
