Generator FAQs

What happens during our free in-home estimate?

We will walk your property to review your electrical and gas set up to determine best choices for the generator placement, answer any questions you have, and size the generator based on your needs. You will have a clear plan and turnkey pricing, no surprises.

Do I need permits and inspections?

Yes. All generator installations require at least 2 permits and inspections. One for the electrical work and 2nd for the gas line installation.  This is to ensure safety and compliance. We will handle all permits and scheduling the inspections.

How do I know what size generator I need?

The right size depends on your home’s square footage, appliances, HVAC units, and your priorities (whole-home coverage vs. essentials). During your assessment, we’ll review your needs and recommend the correct size to keep your home protected.

How long does it take to install a standby generator?

Most installations are completed in 1-2 days at your home.  Behind the scenes, however, our team invests dozens of hours coordinating permits, inspections, utility approvals, and delivery scheduling to ensure everything is as seamless as possible during installation.

How far from openings in the home does the generator need to be?

Any opening in your home (windows, doors, and vents) the generator needs to be at least 5’ away from. If you have fresh air intake the generator will need to be at least 10’ from.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We work with Synchrony to make backup power affordable, with payment options to fit most budgets.

What happens if our generator has a problem?

We offer ongoing service and diagnostics. Many issues can be spotted remotely if you choose our LTE Mobile Link Fleet monitoring. If a problem occurs, our certified technicians can troubleshoot and repair quickly.

Why do I need to schedule maintenance for my generator?

Your generator is like a vehicle — it needs regular service to run reliably. Without maintenance, you risk breakdowns, voiding warranty coverage, or failure during an outage. We offer affordable annual maintenance plans for peace of mind.

How often should maintenance our generator?

We recommend generator maintenance every 200 hours or annually, whichever comes first.

What is the cost of a home standby generator?

There is a wide range of pricing depending on site conditions, size of generator, installation complexity, and gas run length. We will provide a detailed turnkey estimate so you will know exactly what to expect before work begins.

How often should the battery be replaced?

The battery should be replaced at least every 5 years. At the annual maintenance we will load test the battery and the results will be in your service report we will email you. The average battery lasts 5 years and this is why it should be replaced to ensure it will start in the event of a power outage.

Are there extended warranty options?

Yes. There are several options to extend the standard factory warranty. This can be discussed at your free at home consultation.

Will my gas meter or gas line need to be upsized?

Most likely yes. Your gas meter is likely sized for what gas appliances you have in your home, and a standby generator typically adds 250, 000 BTU’s or more of gas load.

Does my existing electrical panel need to be upgraded?

Most times no it will not need to be upgraded.  In some cases, it would be a good time to upgrade old out-of-date panels though as it could save you money vs doing at a latter date.

Do you handle warranty repairs directly?

Yes. All warranty work is no money out of your pocket when the work is scheduled during normal business hours. We bill Generac directly for parts & labor when covered under warranty.

What is covered under the base warranty?

The base warranty in most cases is a 5 year limited warranty. Years 1-2 parts, labor & travel are covered. Year 3 is parts only and you are responsible for labor & travel. Years 4-5 is major components only, Engine, rotor & stator, no labor coverage.  Warranty does not cover and after hours overtime.

What void’s the warranty?

There are many things that can void the warranty but here are a few of the main examples:

  • Improper Installation: Violating code (wiring, fuel, clearances), installing indoors, or using non-Generac parts.
  • Not performing regular maintenance
  • Generator installed indoors
  • Misuse: Using as prime power (instead of backup), modifying the design (exhaust, etc.), or using it for unintended applications.
  • Unauthorized Repairs: Work done by non-authorized technicians or using non-Generac parts.
